Update Regarding the Release of Ping Fire 1.0.3

Unfortunately Mozilla has decided that Ping Fire 1.0.3 is not ready for release on their site. This is mostly due to that fact that Ping Fire uses the Prototype javascript library. The reviewer states that Prototype and some of the code in Ping Fire "can cause compatibility problems with other add-ons or the browser itself." I have been using 1.0.3 of Ping Fire since November and have noticed no instability or incompatibility with other extensions but I can not guarantee that you won't run into issues.

Ping Fire 1.0.3 has been submitted to Mozilla

Ping Fire 1.0.3 has been submitted to Mozilla for their approval. It is still considered experimental by Mozilla, but, if you have an account, you can download it from the Ping Fire Version History page. Once the add-on has been reviewed and approved, it will be available for download from this site.

Ping Fire 1.0.3 is Feature Complete

Ping Fire 1.0.3 is now feature complete. If you would like to get a preview of what is to come, please post a comment to this entry.

Plans for Ping Fire 1.0.3

Ping Fire version 1.0.2 was released a little over a week ago and work has already begun on version 1.0.3. The next version will include a lot of the features that have been posted to Get Satisfaction and emailed to us. Please take a look at the feature list, if there's anything you feel should be added please post a comment here or on Get Satisfaction.

Features for 1.0.3

Automator Application for Building a Firefox Add-On (Mac OS Only)

If you're an add-on developer you already know that the XPI format used by Firefox is simply a ZIP file with a different extension. While developing you probably get sick of creating an archive (or zip file), changing the extension to XPI and then double-clicking the file to load the extension into Firefox. In and of itself, it does not take too long to do this, seconds at most. But, while in the fury of development, this "few seconds" adds up.

Ping Fire 1.0.2 Release

Ping Fire 1.0.2 has been released. You can download it from the bottom of the Ping Fire homepage. This version of Ping Fire will also available from the FireFox Add-On site once it has been reviewed and moved out of the sandbox.

Change Log

  • Modified the back-end code to be more safe in regards Javascript's global namespace.
  • Made it more obvious if a user hasn't entered their Ping.fm API Key.

Old Announcements

This is just an administrative clean-up post. Moved old announcements from the Ping Fire homepage to here.

2009-08-23: Ping Fire is not supported by FireFox version 3.5 and above. While support is planned, we can not provide a release date at this time. Sorry for the delay.

Lack of Updates

First, I'd like to apologize for the lack of updates for PingFire. There really is no excuse but I do have a reason - life has been busy. PingFire is side project for me and my company and projects that pay the bills come first. There will be an update but, unfortunately I do not know when.
